Learning Pods: Student Edition

May 06, 2023 | Written By Althea Grace Genabia

Last school year, APEC Schools implemented Learning Pods as a one-time event each school year which was conducted online. However, on the 29th of March, 2023. The first face-to-face LPods were held at the site of APEC Schools V. Luna. The idea of Learning Pods [Passion, Opportunities, and Development Sessions] Student Edition is to provide the students with life skills that will help them enhance and build their confidence, stay engaged, and be prepared for the future as in APEC we aim to be #BetterEachDay.

There were a few topics that had non-student speakers. The following topics below are the ones that had students as speakers:

  1. College Preparedness

  2. Ready is a Lie

  3. Mental Health and Self-Care

  4. Graphics Design

One of the speakers, Althea Genabia, talked about “Mental Health and Self Care” and shared her experience as a speaker. ¨It was my first largest exposure to public speaking, and it was an entirely new experience. However, I didn´t feel nervous at all unlike before. I was thrilled to share my knowledge with all these students,¨ Althea said.

Her statement´s goal emphasizes the goal of the Lpods student edition was achieved and successful in building her confidence in the pursuit of public speaking. Althea shared her knowledge about Mental Health and Self-care, pointing out the difference between Healing and Self-care, engaging her audience with open-mindedness towards the topic, and helping them nurture through their wounds.

Another speaker shares her experience, Alessandra Mercado with her “Ready is A Lie” podcast. ¨Unfortunately, I was not able to come onsite to share my knowledge to the audience in person. However, I was able to record a video to be projected and presented. Even though I was not there personally, I hoped to assure fellow APECians that everything will be okay and all will come to place at the right time.¨ She shared.

Some students were interviewed about Alessandra´s unique presentation and one said ¨Her words really did touch me and it almost made me drop into tears.¨ finding Alessa´s statements reassuring them for their future.

Lastly, “Graphics Design” by Liean Agulto. Interestingly showed and emphasized the importance and greatness of this art. She prepared some mini-games to engage her audience and as well as making them acknowledge the fundamental elements of Liean´s topic.

One student commented that ¨Ate Liean´s LPods was the only room with a student speaker that really did engaged with her audience, it made it more strong and more enjoyable than the others.¨

Everyone was given certificates of appreciation and APEC merches to recognize their voluntary involvement in the event of LearningPods Student Edition. Interestingly, they were also given a good treat by Principal Cherry Subong a meal from Mcdonalds'! The event was a success in providing students with life skills, building their confidence, and empowering them to be #BetterEachDay.
