APEC V. Luna's
Fun-filled Fun
Fair

On February 14, 2023, the students of APEC V. Luna got to work holding a variety of booths during the branch’s Valentine’s Day themed Funfair.

But first, what is all of this about a funfair? Well, on the second day of APEC School’s school-wide Fun Week, their V. Luna branch hosted a special Valentine’s themed Funfair. According to Merriam-Webster, a funfair is an outdoor event that features games, exhibitions, and other forms of entertainment. The V. Luna branch took this concept and modified it; the funfair was held indoors but open to even those not associated with APEC. Each section was assigned to operate a booth where students and teachers alike could visit and purchase any of the various products and services planned and provided by each section’s students.

A great highlight of the day was when APEC Schools’ Chief Academic Officer, Sir Mark Sy, visited the site and all of its booths. In an interview, he stated that “I think I’m surprised by everything that has been prepared and everything that has been really implemented by the students… Just goes to show that they’re— not only can they plan well, but they can also execute properly. So, I’m very proud.”.

With all that being said, what booth did each section do? Let’s go in order, starting with A01-07-S1-1. Their booth, called the “heART Booth”, sold heart balloons and hand-made flowers to their customers. They even offered caricatures and delivery messages that could be ordered and given to the specified student!

For A01-08-S2-1, they held a really special booth. Named the “Otaku, Kpop, Anime EXPO 2023 booth”, they held an exhibition-style booth where students cosplayed, showed off their K-pop and anime merchandise, as well as socialized with students of similar interests. There was even an awarding section where students could vote for their favorite K-pop groups and anime by purchasing through the Organizers’ booth.

For A01-09-S1-1, their booth was a charming and simplistic booth. On one side of the room, an elegant backdrop for a photo booth was set up. Other than the photo booth, they let customers express their feelings through crafts and polaroids.

For A01-09-S1-2, they had set up a one of a kind booth called the “Jail Booth”. In this booth, a pair of students or teachers could be “locked in'' for a paid price. They also sold a variety of sweet foods like graham balls, pastillas, and coffee jelly. By the end of the day, according to Kenji Ramos, their sweets sold out and the booth was enjoyed well; even by the teachers who were locked up for a time.

For A01-10-S1-2, their booth truly embraced the theme of Valentine’s Day. Through their booth, Cupid’s Messenger, you could have a love letter sent anonymously to another person for those who wanted to express their feelings but just could not find the courage. Aside from being messengers, they also sold sweets and customized initial necklaces in case a letter wasn’t enough to express yourself.

For A01-10-S2-1, they held a booth with a unique second service. Named “The Red Strings of Faith”, their booth had a photo area stationed and sold some bracelets on the side. But the unique attraction of their booth was one-man harana, who serenaded the students.

For A01-11 ABM-S1-1, they held two booths: a games booth named Mini-Carnival and a photo booth named Love Shot. For Mini-Carnival, you could play games and either win prizes or do silly dares and punishments! But their more popular booth was the Love Shot; from anywhere between 10 to 20 pesos, you could take 3 pictures taken by yourself or with your group of friends.

And lastly for Amplify, they too set up their own carnival booth for those not onboard with the Valentine’s theming. With fun games such as Tubs of Fun and Knock Down and even its own popcorn stall, it was sure to give students the feeling of being in an actual carnival!

At the end of the day, APEC V. Luna’s Funfair was the school’s own special way to give the students a time to relax from academics.

Mr. Mark Sy, Chief Academic Officer (CAO) of APEC Schools, stated on his previous visit to APEC V. Luna, “At the end of the day, we understand that it’s not just about school. Sometimes, we also need to relax, we also need to have fun and I think it’s important that there’s always a balance between school life and personal life and fun life.”. That belief for life balance was what inspired APEC schools to create the whole Fun Week event in the first place. As Mr. Sy stated, it can’t be all about work; sometimes, it’s okay to take a break and have fun. And with the Funfair, it was evident that students and teachers had their fun. Furthermore, Mr. Sy noted that apart from enjoyment of both the staff and students, all he wishes for is for the week to finish without anyone getting hurt.

For A01-11 HUMSS-S2-1, they held a beautifully simplistic booth. Their booth, the Flower Shop, was a small set up that sold paper flowers as the name suggested. For less than 30 pesos, you could have yourself a delicately handmade bouquet.
