The Relay Games: Ready, Set, Go!
by Vera Jose

For the first time in over three years, "Sportsfest"—or as they now refer to it, "Fun Week"—returned to APEC Schools V. Luna in full force. The annual and much-awaited school event was held from February 13, 2023, to February 17, 2023, in the Barangay Pinyahan Covered Court and the school site, APEC Schools V. Luna.

The morning of the first day of Fun Week began with a series of entertaining activities. The Relay Games were one of the activities that everyone found interesting. It was coordinated by the school's Student Council and Amplify

The relay consisted of 9 stations: Station 1 was the Ping Pong Ball Challenge, Station 2 was the Sweep The Egg, Station 3 was the Ping Pong Flops, Station 4 was the Stick The Landing, Station 5 was the Cup Stacking, Station 6 was the Catch The Egg, Station 7 was the Calamansi Relay, Station 8 was the Tissue Roll, and Station 9 was the Fish Race. There have to be ten participants per grade level and section who will participate in each game for a set amount of time before being replaced by another group.

The players from A01-10-S1-2 (Blue Eagles) emerged as the champions of the Relay Games, A01-09-S1-1 (Yellow Vipers) won first place and A01-11 HUMSS-S2-1 (The Great Pink Harpy Eagles) won second place. The awarding took place on the last day of the event. The victors of the Relay Games received a certificate of recognition during the awarding ceremony held in Barangay Pinyahan Covered Court last February 17, 2023.

Station 1: Ping Pong Ball Challenge, supervised by Ms. Cheska Bayanay, Sophia Isobel Taduran, and Selina Guelle Hernandez.

Ping-pong balls should be placed into the first cup as you line up three cups with water to prepare for the game. Blowing the ping pong ball from one water-filled cup to another is the game's goal.

Station 2: Sweep The Egg, supervised by Sir Jodjie Tutania and Gabriel Jumalon.

Each participant receives an egg and a spoon. The egg on the spoon must be carried by each team from the starting line to the turnaround point and back. The egg is then handed off to another team member who has a turn. The player is required to pause and pick up the egg if it is dropped.

Station 3: Ping Pong Flops, supervised by Ms. Bless Figueroa and Jamille Balmonte.

A ball is floating on the first of three sets of cups on a table covered in water. The goal is to blow the ball to the other cups without it falling off. If it does, the player must repeat the procedure before moving on to the next player. Before moving on to the next station, all 10 players must accomplish this goal.

Station 4: Stick The Landing, supervised by Elijah Padilla and John Jacob Tan. The player will toss the bottle 4 meters away from the table where it should land in this bottle flip challenge. With each flip, all players take turns, and the order is decided by the 10 players who are waiting in line. The players who successfully placed the bottle on the table will move to the next station after waiting for the other players to finish.

Station 5: Cup Stacking, supervised by Althea Genabia, Mian Candelario, and Kyle Sy.

The aim of this game is to stack all the cups into a pyramid not with hands, but with leads. The leads that the players receive will be used by them to stack the cups. In order to correctly stack the cups, the players must move simultaneously while positioning themselves crosswise from one another and controlling the lead.

Station 6: Catch The Egg, supervised by Alessandra Mercado and Gabrielle Guiyab.

The other player is the catcher, while the tosser is the one who tosses the egg. The playing is spaced at meters. They take a step apart and toss the egg again if it does not crack. Up till one egg is still unbroken, the game continues.

Station 7: Calamansi Relay, supervised by Vera Jose and Norelle Burnett.

The calamansi will be carried by each team member as they hold a plastic spoon in their mouth. The player starts from a certain location and sprints to a specific spot before returning to his teammates and passing the calamansi through the spoon.

Station 8: Tissue Roll, supervised by Lian "Enzo" Salvador and Mikayla Gaskell.

Place the cup on the final piece of toilet paper after spreading the toilet paper out to the other end of the table. Each participant will occupy the opposite seat, facing the water cup while holding the roll in their hands. The idea is to reel in the toilet paper without spilling any water

Station 9: Fish Race, supervised by Milo Sevilla and William Tingson.

The players should line up equally spaced at the meeting area's end. When the game is ready to begin, the game's supervisor should count to three and then exclaim, "Go!" The first team to have all of their players flap the fish to the other end of the meeting place and back is the winner.
